ZF: Why Is Hard for High School Graduates to Find a Job?

Raluca Penes, HR Coordinator Smartree Romania, responded to ZF’s request.

Over 300,000 young graduates of an education cycle (high school, college or vocational school) were enrolled from 2011 to date to the unemployment agencies to receive unemployment benefits because they have not found a job.

The lack of jobs in the economy brought spendings by over 315 million lei recorded in the state budget, given that each year, between 70,000 and 80,000 young graduates aged over 16 years come with certificates to unemployment agencies to explain that they wanted to be hired, but failed.

High School Graduates Find Hard a Job

Although the labor market unfroze in recent years, and companies began to recruit graduates from technical universities (engineering, telecommunications, IT), the high school graduates who remain only with this level of education are more difficult to find a job. The reason?

“High school graduates find harder a job and those that they can be reported to are often jobs for unskilled people. Unfortunately, the high school graduates are reluctant to accept any offer. It is difficult for high school graduates to find their work in conditions that during high school had not received counseling and support for professional guidance”, said Raluca Penes, HR Coordinator to the company of outsourcing HR services Smartree Romania.

A graduate that has searched for a job and failed to be employed (in a period of 60 days after graduation) and has a document certifying this fact, receives a monthly allowance of unemployment of 250 lei per month for six months.

Most cases of unemployment files for graduates were filed in 2013, when were registered about 82,600 young people to the National Agency for Employment (NAE). Subsequently, their number returned around 70,000 young people per year.
