Romanian salaries and bonuses increased in 2016

Smartree analysis show that salaries and bonuses received by romanian employees increased in the first part of 2016 and the most significant increases took place in industries that are offering the minimum wage. Thus, the first half of the year brought an advance of 10% of salaries, compared to the first half of the last year, while bonuses were higher by 16%. “In the first six months of 2016 the private companies were more generous to employees, this thing being determined by many factors. The positive evolution of the economy, the development of companies from several fields of activity and the increase of the minimum wage have a significant impact, “said Adrian Stanciu, Smartree CEO. “This advance was led also by the strategy of companies regarding the employee retention. On an effervescent labor market, especially in areas like IT, medical, automotive and other industries where there is a lack of specialists, employers were forced to offer higher salaries and benefits to retain or attract new employees. ”

Industries which have reported the highest salary increases were those in which is offered the minimum wages in the economy, for example retail and logistics, but also companies from industries with large margins of profit, such as IT, which have a very well planned wage policy, defined by annual salary increases. On the other hand, industries such as oil and banking have suffered in this regard, being determined by the price reduction of the oil barrel in the first case and by the legislative changes, in the second case. Regarding the bonuses offered by companies in the first half of 2016, they increased by 16%, compared to the same period in 2015. As well, in the first trimester of this year, it was registered an increase of 13.3% and in the second quarter of 19%, compared to the same periods in 2015. On average, bonuses in the first six months of this year were worth about 146 lei profit / employee / month, according to Smartree statistics. Also, extra salary benefits were more common among companies in the first six months of the year, both the monthly ones (meal vouchers, medical subscriptions to private clinics, reimbursement of travel expenses, subscriptions to gyms, relaxation rooms) and the occasional ones (gift vouchers, premiums on various occasions, gifts for children in special days etc.).
